Cultivating Character Through Competition

Cultivating Character Through Competition

At Pacific Grove Middle School, we believe that athletics are an extension of the classroom. Our sports programs are designed to foster teamwork, resilience, and school spirit across three dynamic seasons. Whether on the court, the field, or the trail, we provide our students with the opportunity to challenge themselves, build lasting friendships, and develop a lifelong love for physical activity.

Sign-ups and tryouts

Sign-ups and tryouts

Sign-ups for all sport seasons are scheduled during a lunch period during a school day and take place in the school gym. If a student misses the lunch time sign-up, then students can sign-up in the school office. Teams will hold clinics, open gyms, or workouts the first week after sign-ups. Some teams are very popular and will hold tryouts following the clinics, open gyms or workouts. Due to popularity, limited teaching time, facility availability, small coaching staff, and the desire for coaches to provide the best experience for their teams, some coaches will have to limit the number of participants on their teams by making cuts.

If students are interested in trying out for any sports at PGMS, they must have a Sports Physical completed prior to participating on a team. No student will be allowed to try out or participate on a team without a sports physical on file in the office. Families can download the sports physical form on this page. The form must be completed by the student’s doctor and completed by a student’s parent or guardian. If a student is interested in participating in sports, we encourage parents and guardians to download the form and arrange a sports physical with their doctors well before the season begins of the desired sport team. If a student is having trouble getting a sports physical in time before a team tryout, contact the office to find out about other options to have a sports physical completed.
