Sports

Welcome to the Pacific Grove Middle School Sports Page! I am Audrey Kitayama, the Pacific Grove Middle School Athletic Director. We are working on offering a variety of sports programs available to all Pacific Grove Middle School (“PGMS”) students. Our sports programs are divided into three seasons, Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Fall season includes the following sports: volleyball, soccer and cross-country running. The volleyball teams include a 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade girls volleyball teams. It also includes a boys volleyball team with 6th, 7th and 8th grade players. We will have soccer teams for boys and girls from 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The Cross Country running team is available for both boys and girls from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
Winter season is PGMS’ basketball season with six teams. There will be 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams for both boys and girls.
Spring season sports are Tennis, Golf, Wrestling and Track & Field. All four of these sports are open to boys and girls from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
Sign-ups for all sport seasons are scheduled during a lunch period during a school day and take place in the school gym. If a student misses the lunch time sign-up, then students can sign-up in the school office. Teams will hold clinics, open gyms, or workouts the first week after sign-ups. Some teams are very popular and will hold tryouts following the clinics, open gyms or workouts. Due to popularity, limited teaching time, facility availability, small coaching staff, and the desire for coaches to provide the best experience for their teams, some coaches will have to limit the number of participants on their teams by making cuts.
If students are interested in trying out for any sports at PGMS, they must have a Sports Physical completed prior to participating on a team. No student will be allowed to try out or participate on a team without a sports physical on file in the office. Families can download the sports physical form on this page. The form must be completed by the student’s doctor and completed by a student’s parent or guardian. If a student is interested in participating in sports, I encourage parents and guardians to download the form and arrange a sports physical with their doctors well before the season begins of the desired sport team. If a student is having trouble getting a sports physical in time before a team tryout, contact the office to find out about other options to have a sports physical completed.
I look forward to seeing many of the PGMS students in the upcoming school year. Check back on this page for more information and to find sports teams schedules as they become available.
